One Sweet Billet

Chief Mate aboard:

The Privateer LYNX

This is the job I have been waiting for a long time.

Sometime in the beginning of December, I got a call from my old Captain, good friend, mentor, and future Best Man Christopher Trandell, inviting me to join him aboard the Newport Beach based Baltimore Clipper "Privateer Lynx" as his 1st Mate.

For those of you who know the boat, the organization, and/or Christopher, should agree that this is one sweet billet.

It is truly a fine sailing and well maintained vessel, captained by an amazingly skilled and talented mariner, and managed by one of the only "Tallship" organizations which truly exists to support the vessel and her crew.

Immagine a 122' Baltimore Clipper (very rakish square topsail schooner with an extremely slippery full keeled hull), designed by Melborne Smith, and built to bristol standards as a private yacht for an owner with the highest standards for quality and a love of maritime history.

Then immagine an office that is truly family of the boat, a captain that is one of the finest professionals in the industry, and crewing it with some of the most eager, enthusiastic, & dedicated sailors you will ever meet.

I'm talking about a 1st Mate's Wet Dream!!!

Here's my Captain Cristopher Trandell, and in the background is our engineer / 2nd Mate Abe, aloft on the Royal yard of the Star of India in San Diego.

Jimmy, our purser and assistant cook.

Sam, our Boatswain.

The world Infamous Krunch, our ships cook.

Katie, our Education Coordinator.

Ryan, our gunner.

Craig, our relif Captain.

There will be more photos of LYNX, and of me, as well as a more detailed account of our winter tour aboard Lynx to come.. So... Check back soon, and drop me a line some time.

Bhodi.
